ASH WEDNESDAY UPDATE
NO Ash Wednesday Services
All functions at SJV are canceled until the vigil mass on Saturday at 5pm at Marti Elementary.
I really did not want to make this decision, but after consulting with Fathers Bolin and Stainbrook, I am closing St John Vianney parish until Saturday vigil mass at 5pm. All masses and functions are canceled, this includes altar guild training.
I am really sorry for this, but the weather is just too severe (the possibility of sleet sealed it) to risk having these services.
God Bless
Fr Scott

COME TO MASS!!!!
Remember we are back live and in person at church. If you haven't made it back to church yet through all of this craziness, but are planning on returning, why not THIS Saturday or Sunday? There are now 2 options for weekend Mass. We have mass every Saturday at Marti Elementary at 5pm and Sunday mass at 9am. If you haven't had the pleasure of meeting Deacon Wooten, show up and introduce yourself. While many churches have not opened again, God has blessed us and we are able to take part in his grace and sacrament and attend church. We hope to see your bright shining face.
Also during this time, even though attendance has decreased, our bills and cost of operations have not. Please be sure and continue to make your weekly offering. There are 3 ways in which to do this.
1. Mail your contribution to:
St. John Vianney Church
501 N. Nolan River Road
Cleburne TX 76033
2. Go to the website and hit the DONATE Button to make your Contribution via PayPal
Here is the link https://www.paypal.me/SJVCleburne
3. Drop off your contribution in person at the Church Office (Victory Investment Strategies Building, 501 N. Nolan River Road, Cleburne) which is OPEN during regular office hours. (or you can drop them in the Mail Box after regular business hours)
St. John Vianney Church thanks you for your Support.
Together we can keep our Church strong during this time, and ready for our future!
In the Works... |
The building committee has met and has decided to actively pursue the building of a church on our property. We are checking out the working and quality of the existing well, and getting estimates for a septic system. The architect, Scott Martsolf, is working on a final design for our new building, and after the design has passed the committee, we will be sharing that design with the greater congregation. We are, in all reality, building our parish hall, which will house us until we are able to build the church. I believe we will have all ready to build in a matter of months; our only unknown is financing. Covid has taken its toll on our monthly finances. Please remember St John Vianney, even if you cannot attend. If you don’t send a regular pledge, please think of donating to our building fund. All of our activities are online, and I am considering beginning a YouTube channel for teaching and catechism, please stay tuned for that. There are so many of you that I have not yet met, please feel free to email me, or call. God Bless Dcn Scott frwooten1@icloud.com 940-867-3860 |

School (2020 Kilpatrick Street,
Cleburne TX 76033)
Please note the following instructions:
• The Plenary Indulgence issued during this Pandemic is still in
effect. If you are sick or exhibiting systems of any illness, please
say home. Older Parishioners are invited to stay home and
watch the Live Stream of Sunday's Mass.
• Parishioners attending mass are encouraged to wear masks or
scarves over their mouths and noses whilst in church.
• The number of people who are to be in physical attendance
cannot exceed the number that can be
safely present according to Governor
Abbott's guidelines. The Ushers will be in
charge of seating and counting
attendees. Please follow their
instructions.
• Communion will be given in one species, (the Host) only. The
Chalice will remain on the altar.
• A server will assist the Celebrant to sanitize his hands after each
family group has received Communion.
• Please maintain Social Distancing - keeping six feet apart.
Please do not physically exchange the Sign of the Peace, or
hold hands (of anyone outside your immediate family) at any
time during the Mass.
• There will not be an Offertory Procession. Collection baskets

YOUR help.
• Overflow attendees (and anyone who feels comfortable in so
doing) may stay in the Parking Lot and view the Live Stream
Mass and the ushers will let them know when
they can receive Communion. If they do not
wish to leave their vehicle, Communion will

mass. Please follow the instructions of the
Ushers and Knights of Columbus.
• For further clarifications, please see Parish
Council President, Dale Williams or
Committee of Parishioner Safety Chairman,
Neil Norman.
• We are very excited to resume the public celebration of Sunday
Mass and look forward to welcoming all who are comfortable
to return! Again, please note: Live Streaming of Mass WILL
continue, and we will make accommodation for Parking Lot
Attendees.

--KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS TO THE RESCUE!
" In 1882 Father Michael J. McGivney and a group of parishioners founded the Knight of Columbus to bring assistance to the sick, disabled and needy members and their families. In that spirit, the Knights of Columbus at St. John Vianney Church want to offer to help those parishioners shut in during this pandemic. Those who fall under the "At Risk" guidlines of the CDC and want/need help with shopping or other needs as they arise may call Brett Lucas at 817-909-3791 to schedule assistance."

LATEST NEWS FOR SJV ON CORONA VIRUS
Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. John Vianney:
Here is an excerpt of an email that Bishop Lopes sent to the priests today.
"By now, most local dioceses have suspended the celebration on Mass in order to stem the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We also know that, more and more, civi jurisdictions are enforcing the prohibition against crowds of more than 10 people by fines and court orders. Let me first acknowledge the heaviness of heart that I feel. As a pastor myself, I grieve for our people who feel themselves denied the intimacy of Our Lord’s presence in Holy Communion. But let us also be clear: our action now in suspending Mass is a pastoral response! We are caring for our most vulnerable parishioners in this way. I know many of you have creatively tried—I have tried!—to keep Mass available for as long as possible. But the time has come for this pandemic to run its course and for all of us to follow the guidance of the experts. Until further notice, the celebration of public Mass is suspended in the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter."
The Diocese of Fort Worth has also cancelled the public celebration of all masses in their churches as well (as have the other Dioceses in Texas, and many more besides)
I know that this announcement will come as a surprise, or even a shock, to many, since we at St. John Vianney Church had already developed a contingency plan for the earlier restrictions of no fewer than 50 people to be assembled in one space, but these plans have, very reluctantly been superseded today.
At St. John Vianney Church, we are working on Live Streaming our Sunday Mass at our regular time of 9:00 a.m. from our Chapel location.
Father Stainbrook will email a bulletin, and a copy of his homily on Saturday in attempt to make this event as full, meaningful and regular a celebration as possible.
Even during an unprecedented time like this, our bills continue at the Church. It is essential for our future growth that St. John Vianney not lose traction during these weeks when we cannot be phyiscally present. PLEASE continue to maintain your contributions to the Church - both to the Operating Fund and the Building Fund.
There are several ways you can do this.
1. Mail your contribution to:
St. John Vianney Church
501 N. Nolan River Road
Cleburne TX 76033
2. Go to the website and hit the DONATE Button to make your Contribution via PayPal
3. Drop off your contribution at the Church Office (501 N. Nolan River Road, Cleburne) during regular office hours.
St. John Vianney Church thanks you for your Support.

--THIS SUNDAY IS ALSO THE KICK OFF OF THE 2020 BISHOP'S ANNUAL APPEAL!
As is our Practice in the Ordinariate, the Bishop’s Appeal begins every year on the weekend prior to Ash Wednesday and ends on Dec. 31
Therefore the 2020 Bishop’s Appeal will be held this Sunday, Feb. 23 - Our Patronal Festival of the Chair of St. Peter. The Annual Bishop's Appeal is our opportunity for us at St. John Vianney Church to unite with our Ordinariate family to support our shared mission of evangelization.
Before Sunday's celebration, please take the time to prayerfully reflect on the gifts that you have been given by God and respond to Bishop Lopes’ appeal as generously as you possibly can. Everyone should have received a copy of Bishop Lopes' letter (containing a pledge card). More Pledge cards will be in the bulletin this Sunday.
Everyone's participation is essential to the success of the Ordinariate. Please join your fellow Catholics from throughout the Ordinariate in supporting this very important Appeal on Sunday.
ALL BA 2020 pledge cards should be mailed to:
Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter, P.O. Box 4310, Houston, TX 77210
All monies for BA 2020 must be postmarked by December 31, 2020.
Gifts postmarked after December 31, 2020 will be credited to BA 2021
Many people ask: How will the gifts to the 2020 Bishop's Appeal be distributed?
Clergy and Vocations: $105,000
Financial assistance for seminarians, and pre- and post-ordination education opportunities for all priests and deacons
Communications Outreach: $45,000
Continued production of Ordinariate publications, website enhancements, and ongoing use of media tools to amplify the
Ordinariate’s identity
Parish Development: $120,000
Services to Parishes, including Chancery support for communities’ development, digital tools to gather and track parishioner
information, canonical services, and Safe Environment activities
Evangelization: $30,000

--THE SAINT THOMAS MORE COUNCIL, KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS (St. Joseph's/St. John Vianney) will be hosting their FRIDAY NIGHT FISH FRY every Friday in Lent from 5 - 7 pm ($8 adults, $5 children) at the St, Joseph's Parish Hall (807 North Anglin Street, Cleburne) Support our Knights on these meatless days!
New Parishioners: if you would like to become a Knight, please see Father Stainbrook or any of our Knights after Sunday Mass.
--St. John Vianney is again offering partial Scholarships for our youth to attend "The Pines Catholic Camp".
The Pines offers the younger members of our congregation an opportunity to grow in their faith with other Catholic children their own age. Camp sessions are open for grades 1 thru 12. For more information on camps sessions and fees go to: www.thepines.org For information and applications on the scholarships offered by St. John Vianney, or to make a greatly appreciated donation to the SJV Scholarship Fund, please see Dennis Reger after Mass on Sunday.
--ATTENTION ALL GOLFERS: OUR GOLF SCRAMBLE IS COMING SATURDAY, JUNE 13th! WE NEED SPONSORS! Please distribute the Sponsor Registration form to any who may be interested and register to play a round for our church!

:
--Thank you to all our parishioners who had new pictures taken for the 2020 St. John Vianney Photo Directory these past three weeks.
If you are new to the parish, you can schedule an additional times for photographs with parishioner/photographer EARL LUTZ. Longtime parishioners can either sign up for a photo, or we can use the one from the 2017 Directory.
All Parishioners: PLEASE check the parishioner lists on Sunday to make sure that St. John Vianney has your current address and contact information, as well as birthdays and anniversary dates.
--More Pledges were received last Sunday at the Feast of the Epiphany, and we offer our thanks to those who have pledged their support, but we are not yet where we need to be for our budget for next year.
If you have not yet made a pledge for next year, please do so as soon as possible.
St. John Vianney is offering TWO pledge Cards for 2020 One for the Church's regular Operating Account (to pay salaries and bills, make purchases, etc) and a Pledge Card for our Building Fund.
Neil and Vivian will also have boxes of OFFERING ENVELOPES available for any who would like to use them (they will be available for the next two weeks).
It would be extremely helpful if everyone could write two separate checks for their pledges -- one for the Regular Pledge and one for the Building Fund Pledge. This will help our VOLUNTEER treasurers complete their paperwork much more quickly.
Someone asked last week if one has to be a parishioner in order to pledge. The answer is "No" - ANYONE parishioners, former parishioners, visitors, and those who are unable to visit us - can make a pledge towards the work and ministry of our congregation, either to the Operating Budget or the Building Fund.
We have a special category of supporters called "THE FRIENDS OF ST. JOHN VIANNEY" who are unable to be present with us on Sunday for mass, but who WOULD like to support (or continue to support, if they were parishioners at one time) our Church.
Friends of St. John Vianney receive the SAME tax benefits from the contributions as our parishioner pledgers do. The "Friends" are also entitled to receive envelopes (like the parishioners do) if they desire.
If anyone on our mailing list would like to become a "FRIEND OF ST. JOHN VIANNEY" by contributing regularly to our church, please contact Parish Council President, Dale Williams.
St. John Vianney needs all the "Friends" we can get!
The congregation of St. John Vianney, The larger Ordinariate and Bishop, Father Stainbrook, and your Parish Leadership thank all of you for your support!
--Its time for another CONFIRMATION CLASS at St. John Vianney!
Confirmations this year will be celebrated on PENTECOST SUNDAY, May 31st, at the CATHEDRAL OF OUR LADY OF WALSINGHAM in Houston. (In order to allow everyone to participate in the 10th Anniversary Jublilee Indulgence granted by the Holy Father on the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of the establishment of the Ordinariate, the Bishop has designated several "Regional Weekends" for ALL our congregations to be present at our Mother Church. The weekend of Pentecost has been chosen for the churches in Texas)
Please see Father Stainbrook if you would like to be confirmed into the Catholic Church via the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter.
There will be two classes - one on Wednesday nights for Adults, and one on Sunday Mornings for younger people.
Music notes from the choir:
St. John Vianney thanks Christopher Woodall for heading up the new changes in our music and for providing the hymns as a weekly insert with the mass leaflet.
Everyone will now have the hymns in their hands! So, sing away!
Also, Sunday Feb. 9th is Septuagesima (the first pre-Lent Sunday), so we will not be singing or saying the "Alleluias" until the Easter Vigil.
We will be singing Handel's beloved "Hallelujah Chorus" as our Anthem for Easter Sunday and will start practicing for a few minutes after mass each week. If anyone would like to join us, a few (or many!) extra voices will be a big help.
Faithfully, Your Choir Director, Pat Tittle

Father Whitehead also gave the homily.

Welcome aboard the Barque of Peter, Chris: and to to your new Church home: St. John Vianney Catholic Church!
--I am deeply moved by the generosity shown to me by our parishioners who presented me with such a munificent Christmas gift last Sunday (The Feast of the Holy Family), and I was equally moved at the very complimentary words said by Parish Council President, Dale Williams,at that time.
St. John Vianney is a very special and loving community - indeed, more than a community - we're a family - and I am blessed and honored to be your priest.
May the Spirit of Christmas remain with all of us,not just during the 12 days of Christmas, but throughout the entire year.
I look forward to accomplishing great things with you for St. John Vianney Church this year of Our Lord 2020 - the previous "roaring twenties" of the last century will have nothing on us!
Thank you very much for all you do for,and are to,me,your most fortunate Pastor.
Faithfully,and affectionately,
Fr. Christopher C. Stainbrook

We will need a 2020 Bazaar Coordinator -- if interested, please see Father Stainbrook.
Congratulations to Kathy McVicker who won the raffle for the lovely Christmas Village display
The Bake Sale table was, as always, a very popular spot!
A large crowd enjoys the Bazaar!
--END OF YEAR GIVING TO OUR CHURCH
December is the month when many people like to donate to churches and charities (both because of the joy of giving at Christmas, and also for the IRS tax advantage)
The Advanced Giving Department of the Diocese of Fort Worth has sent out this reminder: Individuals aged 70½ years or older, can give up to $100,000 from their IRA directly to without having to pay income taxes on the money.
Indeed, any gift to our Church is tax deductible. Perhaps a gift to our Building Fund might be on your list this year?
St. John Vianney thanks all of our parishioners and "Friends of St. John Vianney" for their support!
(The "Friends of St. John Vianney" are people who are unable to be present at Sunday mass, but who want to support our Ordinariate parish)
The Bishop's Appeal is still accepting 2019 donations as well:
Until the clock strikes midnight on 12/31
The 2019 Bishop's Appeal campaign does not close until Dec. 31, 2019. Supporters have until midnight on Dec. 31 to pay their pledges or make a gift to this year’s campaign. Any checks or credit card payments dated by Dec. 31, 2019 and received at the Ordinariate Chancery by Jan. 17, 2020 will be counted towards a Parish/Community's 2019 BA goal. Everyone likes to be greeted with a smile and our Ushers are the "1st Impression" visitors have of our church. Our Usher Corps is in need of more volunteers to help with this enjoyable and important ministry. Please see Earl Lutz if you are able to be a part of our "Welcome" Team!
Likewise, our Choir is always eager to welcome new members. Please help our new organist, Trent Muse, and long serving choir director, Pat Tittle, by considering lending YOUR voice to the St. John Vianney Choir. Remember, as St. Augustine wrote: "Singing is like praying twice!" Many people have expressed admiration for the choir's willingness to sing anthems and new music settings - but our choir can acxhieve even more with YOUR assistance!
Choir practice is held on Wednesday's at 7 p.m. (afte the 6:30 Mass) at the Our Lady of Victory Chapel, and Sunday mornings before the 9:00 a.m. Mass at the Marti Elementary School.
COFFEE HOUR HOSTS ARE ALSO NEEDED - It is important that the same few families are not burdened with providing coffee and snacks after Sunday Mass -- the more families who sign up for Hospitality after Church, the fewer the occasions each particular family will need to serve.
PLEASE - LET'S ALL DO OUR PART TO VOLUNTEER FOR OUR CHURCH!

--The 2019 Baby Bottle Campaign for the Cleburne Pregnancy Center has raised $517.51! There are still eleven bottles not yet returned, so this figure may grow. Thank you to all who participated in this Campaign.

She will also discuss various canning methods, besides the “sun method”, including hot pack and cold pack canning. An instruction sheet, with information on supplies to bring to class, and how to sterilize and prepare canning jars and lids for the class, will be provided ahead of time. --The 2019 Bishop’s Appeal KICK OFF will be held this Sunday, March 3rd.
The Bishop's Appeal is our opportunity as a parish/parochial community to unite with our Ordinariate family to support our shared mission of evangelization.
In the coming week, please take the time to prayerfully reflect on the gifts that you have been given by God
and respond to Bishop Lopes’ appeal as generously as you possibly can.
Your participation is essential to the success of the Ordinariate. Please join other Catholics from throughout
the Ordinariate in supporting this very import appeal next week.
The Bishop’s Appeal (BA) is an annual appeal to all the faithful in the Ordinariate. It is conducted by the bishop through
all the parishes or parochial communities of the Ordinariate. Contributions are used as funds for the needs and ministries
of the Ordinariate as determined by the bishop.
A fundraising goal is assigned to each parish (subject to discretionary
adjustments by the bishop)
BISHOP LOPE'S 2019 Letter can be read here: https://ecatholic-sites.s3.amazonaws.com/3059/documents/2019/2/19_BA_Letter_to_Parishes.pdf
The goal 2019 for St. John Vianney Church is $8,000.00

--VOLUNTEERING
We thank those who responded to this announcement last week, but we are running it again in hopes that more people will respond.
It's a "good" problem to have, but the NEED for VOLUNTEERS in the various guilds and committees here at our growing Church is GROWING too. In other words:
Many of these essential activities (Ushers, Coffee Ministry for example, are now relying on only a few families to serve week after week - and these few families need help.
As we welcome our new Confirmands this Sunday, and also welcome our Father in God, Bishop Lopes, we should each be asking ourselves “what ministry is God calling YOU to do for St. John Vianney.”
We have many types of ministry that need YOUR help and support. It is not fair to assume that the same few volunteers will continue to shoulder the burden which benefits the whole congregation. (Everyone like coffee and doughnuts, everyone wants a warm smile and a leaflet when they arrive) Please see below how YOU can help.
The ALTAR GUILD is a ministry of service to the Alter. It is open to all women and girls (and men and boys as well!) in the parish who serve on teams. The more teams we have, the fewer Sunday's each time a particular team will have to be on duty. Please see Altar Guild Directress, Amanda LoPalo.
We need more ALTAR SERVERS (especially from the men and boys from our recently added families) Please see Father Stainbrook, or Acolyte Director, Brad Mead.
Our growing CHOIR can always use more voices, too. Please see Choir Director, Pat Tittle
Christian Education is a developing ministry. Many parents want a Sunday school for our kids. See Belen Morgan or Meagen Klien.
A NEW MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY HAS ARISEN: We are starting a NURSERY during Mass (which began last Sunday), please see Dale Williams to help. (Please Note: all Nursery Volunteers must take the Safe Environment Training Online at https://ordinariate.net/safe-environment PLEASE take this training as soon as possible.
The Hospitality Ministry is made up of Ushers, Coffee and doughnut preparation and clean up and preparing our information table with posters and notices concerning Parish or Diocese Events. The need for volunteers in this area is CRITICAL! Please see Earl Lutz or Laura Kastner to be our "hosts" on a Sunday.
The Outreach Ministry enables us at SJV to support those in or around our parish and have a presence in the Cleburne Community. See Mike Luchi
Of course that includes the Sign Ministry, (removing the outside sign every week after mass) you have a truck, you can help. (We keep the sign in the Holy Blue Trailer at the Lucas home). See Brett Lucas.
Don’t forget we have the Mowing Ministry at 2825. If you have a mower and weed eater, we need you to help keep our property looking top shape. See Dale Williams
It is time to make that Resolution: To Get Involved at St. John Vianney!
WE HAVE DEVELOPED A NEW "MINISTRY SCHEDULE" for Altar Servers, Ushers, Coffee Hosts, and other ministries: Check out our website for the schedule and for more information about events at our parish at www.stjohnvianneycleburne.com
--PLEASE NOTE: THE FULL EFFICACY (BENEFIT) OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT IS BESTOWED WHEN ONE RECEIVES THE BODY AND BLOOD IN EITHER SPECIES -- IN OTHER WORDS, CHOOSING TO RECEIVE THE COMMUNION HOST AND BYPASSING THE CHALICE, IS PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE CATHOLIC PRACTICE. (Indeed, for centuries, only the celebrating priest drank from the Chalice)
Every Catholic is permitted to choose for him/herself whether or not to receive the Precious Blood at Mass.
St. John Vianney will continue to OFFER the Chalice at Mass, but every communicant is permitted the option of whether to receive Communion in one or both forms.
---NEW BUILDING PLANS AND ARCHITECT DRAWINGS WILL BE SET UP AFTER MASS ON SUNDAYS - Please stop by and take a look at what our new home will look like!
--THANK YOU TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE 6TH ANNUAL WALK FOR LIFE on Saturday. St. John Vianney was well represented at this ecumenical activity. Special thanks to coordinator, Mike Luchi - well done, Mike!
COFFEE TIME AT SJV after Mass
We are looking for some additional families to undertake this very important ministry of hospitality on Sunday mornings (Some wags have even called "Coffee Hour" the 8th Sacrament!) The more families who volunteer, the fewer Sundays each family must shoulder -- if you and your family can help, please see COFFEE HOUR COORDINATOR, EARL LUTZ after Mass.
